Camerata Musica concert at the Divinity School this evening

A concert of 'Songs Sacred and Profane' will take place this evening in the Divinity School, St John's College, as part of the Camerata Musica 2013/14 Season.

Performed by Lawrence Zazzo, countertenor, and Simon Lepper, pianist, the programme of music will feature a contrast of pieces ranging from Purcell’s moving Evening Hymn and Mussorgsky’s Three Songs, to the witty Cabaret Songs by William Bolcom.

Lawrence Zazzo, one of the most exceptional singers of his generation, is a graduate of both English and Music from Yale University and King’s College, Cambridge. He has performed in some of the finest opera houses and concert halls in the world in roles such as Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the title role in Gluck’s Orfeo.

Simon Lepper will be accompanying Zazzo on the piano, and this accomplished pianist, educated at King’s College, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, is professor of piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, teacher at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and official accompanist for the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.

Camerata Musica was founded in 2006 as an initiative by Peterhouse to introduce audiences to classical music, and in particular, to give students the opportunity to hear some of the greatest masterpieces performed by some of the finest musicians.

The concert will take place at 7.30 in the Main Lecture Theatre of the Divinity School. Tickets are available to Fellows and students of St John’s at a special discounted rate of £5 per ticket for themselves and up to four guests. Tickets can be booked online via ADC Ticketing, and the discounted rate can be obtained by selecting ‘Student’ rate after the seats have been selected.
