Medieval manuscripts catalogue

The Library is pleased to announce the migration of the several hundred pages of our medieval manuscripts catalogue to the current version of the St John’s website. As well as transcriptions of M R James’s Descriptive Catalogue of the Manuscripts in the Library of St John's College, Cambridge (1913) – for which permission has been kindly granted by Mr N J R James – the pages feature updated information on the manuscripts’ form and content, suggestions for further reading, and a large number of colour images to enhance James’s already colourful writing. The greater degree of integration into the College website improves navigation and makes the catalogue fully searchable, and the project has additionally addressed some earlier problems caused by the quirks of electronic formatting. It is fortuitous that the emergence of this significantly improved resource should coincide with the centenary of the book that remains its foundation.
