Johnian graduates win conference prizes

Two of the three prizes for student presentations at a recent scientific conference in Australia have been awarded to St John’s graduate students.

Prajwal Ciryam, a Benefactors’ Scholar and Priyanka Narayan, a Marshall Scholar, received their awards for delivering outstanding lectures at the International Proteostasis and Disease Symposium held at the University of Wollongong, near Sydney in November 2012. Both described in their lectures the results of their individual investigations into the nature and origins of neurodegenerative diseases.

Priyanka has now completed her PhD and is currently engaged in post-doctoral research at the Whitehead Institute at MIT. Prajwal is in his third year of research for his PhD. After completing this he will return to Northwestern University to carry out the clinical part of a medical degree, from which he took leave to study in Cambridge.
