Professor Roger Blandford awarded Royal Astronomical Society Gold Medal

Professor Roger Blandford FRS, a former Research Fellow at St John's College (1973-76), has been awarded the Gold Medal in Astronomy by the Royal Astronomical Society.

The Gold Medal is the highest honour awarded by the Society, recognising 'extraordinary lifetime achievement'. Professor Blandford's citation describes him as 'widely regarded as the outstanding all-round theoretical astrophysicist of his generation – a real intellectual leader and inspiration.'

Professor Blandford is currently Luke Blossom Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford University.
