Professor Stefan Reif, Fellow of St John’s College and University Professor of Medieval Hebrew Studies, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of philosophy from the University of Haifa.

The award will be presented to Professor Reif at the end of May in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements, including his work in establishing and preserving the Cairo Genizah Collection, and for making its contents and research available to scholars and the general public. He is also recognised for advancing the careers of young scholars and for his contribution to academic Jewish studies.

Professor Reif is Project Consultant and former Head of the Genizah Collection, based at the Cambridge University Library, which is responsible for the curation, digitisation and description of the Genizah Collection, the world's largest and most important single collection of Jewish manuscripts.
