Professor Sharon Peacock elected to Fellowship in American Academy of Microbiology

Professor Sharon Peacock, Fellow of St John's College and Professor of Clinical Microbiology in the Department of Medicine, has been elected as a Fellow to the American Academy of Microbiology.

Professor Peacock was elected to Fellowship in the Academy following a highly-selective peer-review process, based on scientific achievements and original contributions that have advanced microbiology. Her research focuses on the role of sequencing technologies in diagnostic microbiology and public health, and she works closely with Public Health England, chairs the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Initiative, and is deputy director of the Wellcome Trust Cambridge Centre for Global Health Research.

Eighty-eight microbiologists were elected to the Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology this year, and there are now over 2,400 Fellows in the Academy representing all areas of microbiology, including research, teaching, industry, clinical and public health, and government service.
