Professor Samworth elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics

Professor Richard Samworth, Fellow and Lecturer of Mathematics at St John's College, has received the honour of being elected a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics due to his outstanding contribution to the field of statistics.

Professor Samworth, also Professor of Statistics at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Mathematics, was elected to the Fellowship for his fundamental research in nonparametric classification, nonparametric inference under shape constraints, and high-dimensional variable selection.

The new Fellows will be presented at the IMS Presidential Address and Awards session at the IMS-ASC meeting in Sydney.

The Institute of Mathematical Statistics is devoted to developing and disseminating the theory and applications of statistics and probability, and has approximately 4,500 members from around the world.
