Forgotten Revolutionary: Francis Hutcheson

Dr Gideon Mailer is to appear in a BBC documentary about ‘the father of the Scottish Enlightenment’, Francis Hutcheson. Along with lecturing and running supervisions in American History and Historical Argument and Practice, Dr Mailer is also a Title A (Research) Fellow at St John’s College.

During the documentary Dr Mailer is interviewed to explain the influence of Hutcheson’s ideas in the North American colonies, particularly on founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson, during the American Revolution.

The programme, 'Forgotten Revolutionary: Francis Hutcheson', will be shown on 25 July at 7pm on BBC 2 (Northern Ireland), and subsequently will be available on the BBC iPlayer. It will also be shown on BBC 4 at a later stage.
